Join our small, passionate conservation team on South Africa’s Garden Route! As a Butterfly Sanctuary Tour Guide, you’ll lead guests through our butterfly dome, sharing butterfly life-cycle insights, conservation facts and local ecology. You’ll also help with light bartending and hospitality tasks during visitor hours. 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 hrs/day. We provide accommodation + 2 meals/day. Role Description
You will gain hands-on exposure in eco-tourism and hospitality in a safe, structured environment while supporting daily sanctuary operations.
Your activities include:
Welcoming and guiding guests through the butterfly dome, offering interpretive eco-tours
Sharing knowledge about butterfly life cycles, plants, and conservation
Assisting the team with light waitering duties during busy meal services
Helping serve drinks and refreshments at the sanctuary café/bar (non-alcoholic and alcoholic)
Supporting staff with basic bartending tasks such as pouring, stock organisation, and cleaning
General hospitality tasks: clearing tables, maintaining a tidy guest space, assisting where needed
You are not employed, and no tasks will replace paid positions — your stay is an experience-exchange conservation support role.
🗓️ Schedule
5 days on, 2 days off
4 hours of support per day
Schedules are flexible and will vary depending on guest flow
Plenty of free time to explore beaches, forests, restaurants, and scenic viewpoints in your off time

Activités et horaires
A typical day may include:
Preparing the dome before guests arrive
Guiding visitors and answering questions
Assisting during peak hospitality hours
Restocking and cleaning café/bar areas
Supporting eco-education sessions
Keeping guest areas clean and welcoming
Optional learning time with staff about butterfly species and care
Shifts are generally in the morning or early afternoon and may rotate based on visitor traffic.

No participating while under the influence of alcohol or substances
Alcohol use only in designated areas
Strictly no illegal substances
Respect quiet hours and shared spaces
Keep accommodation clean and tidy
Treat guests and staff with respect
Be punctual for shifts
No harassment, discrimination, or aggressive behaviour
Follow safety instructions in the sanctuary
Handle butterflies and animals only as trained
No inviting outside visitors without permission
Report any issues or concerns to management
