Détails du programme

You receive free basic accommodation, plus two cooked meals a day (Mon–Fri), drinking water, free access to the community kitchen and its supplies, shared spaces, Wi-Fi, and charging stations. Facilities include shared toilets and showers. Each long-term volunteer participates in the cleaning rota once per month as part of the community hours (25 hours of work per week + 5 hours of community tasks).

Our community consists of around 25–30 long-term live-in volunteers (staying 3+ months or with no set leaving date), plus about 15 short-term guests in a separate program.

We work Monday to Friday, 8:30–14:15, with a 45-minute break at 11:00 for breakfast and lunch served at 14:30.

Food is supplied by two island distributors. Every day, a volunteer collects surplus food that would otherwise be discarded and brings it to the sanctuary for sorting. Food sorting takes place Monday to Saturday, but each long-term volunteer only joins the food-sorting team once per week, on an assigned day.

We aim to live as sustainably as possible, being mindful of water and energy use. Long-term accommodations do not have electricity or running water, but both are available in shared areas around the finca.

Activités et horaires

We often say we live in “organized chaos” — planning ahead is ideal, but things can change quickly. You will always have guidance and support from our communications team, and the flexibility to take initiative in shaping how we share our story with the world.

As a charity, there are many ways you can help us grow and increase our impact. This could include:

Managing and improving our social media presence across platforms

Monitoring and optimizing SEO for our website

Providing suggestions for website content, structure, and design

Supporting online campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and digital outreach

Creating strategies to engage our audience and increase awareness of our sanctuary

Tracking analytics and measuring impact to help us refine our approach

This role is ideal for someone who is creative, proactive, and comfortable navigating the online communication landscape. You don’t need to be a content creator, but a basic understanding of digital marketing, social media, and web tools is helpful. Most importantly, you should be ready to adapt, problem-solve, and help our charity thrive online.

Règles

Respect the animals – This is their home first. Watch for problems, don’t feed unless instructed, keep gates closed, and avoid leaving dangerous food around.

No drugs or alcohol – Use of illegal substances or alcohol while working is prohibited. Never smoke inside kitchens or toilets.

Be kind and open – No violence or aggression. Communicate openly and resolve issues respectfully. For other problems, contact Helena, Emma, or Edo.

Work responsibly – 30 hours/week: 25 work hours + 5 community hours. Laziness affects the animals.

No unapproved parties – Common areas must be quiet after “shut off” time. Keep the sanctuary peaceful.

Respect your community – Share, clean up, and help each other. Take responsibility for shared spaces.

Live sustainably – Follow signs, conserve water/electricity, and respect systems designed for a sustainable life.

If you feel ill - stay away from common areas. For digestive or respiratory problems or fever, stay home and ask a friend to bring you food and water. If it is a non-contagious illness, take it easy and do what you feel to do.

Represent the sanctuary – You are part of our image. Be responsible with visitors, online presence, and in the local community.
