I had a really great time at the project! I am a solo female traveler and I never felt uncomfortable when I was staying there. My host Luisa was very understanding and supportive especially when I had doubts. I went during the month of July, which is during the dry season, so I only ended up spending about 2 days out of my 2 weeks helping on the farm and helping with reforestation. The rest of the time I spent working with the local school. I taught 2 English classes to the kids and helped out around the classroom. I got to meet a lot of locals and I had a really great experience!

Working in this project was a very educative experience! You get to learn a lot about the local culture and you get to meet a lot of locals. I felt very welcome there, everyone were really nice to us and happy to work alongside us. Cora, the mom of the house is very kind and caring, making sure we don't miss of anything and cooking the best meals every time. I learned a lot about farming and got to practice my Spanish a lot!

Mi experiencia en el proyeto fué muy agradable. Luisa, Corita, René, Abel y el resto del equipo siempre estuvieron presentes en cada paso. La casa de voluntarios está muy bien equipada y las tareas son bastante manejables. Tuve la oportunidad de construir un invernadero y recibir una charla técnica de la agencia de agricultura de la zona. Recomiendo esta experiencia si buscas alejarte de la ciudad y conectar con la naturaleza.

Lacre is a lovely and peaceful community with a lot to learn from the locals. The kids are very fun to be around. Luisa, Cora, and Luis were extremely hospitable and really made sure I was taken care of. Volunteering is very flexible and you have a good amount of creativity with what you want to do. You can also learn about the Shipibo culture and plant medicine. There are many ways to have an impact in this project in the school or in planting trees, though a major challenge in the community are fires that tend to happen every dry season.
