I stayed one week in El Remate and had a great time! Ricardo was always available if we had any questions, and spending time with the kids was a lovely experience. To note, the home is no longer in use so the main other task was welcoming guests when I was there. Several things to do in the area are visiting Tikal, Flores, Santa Elena, walking around the lake, swimming, going to one of the local cafès, and trying the amazing cheap tacos across the street! If you are looking for a chill break, this is definitely the place for you to relax. I would say 7-10 days is plenty :)

I had a really positive experience with Richie and his project! It's a chill volunteering where you are given a lot of freedom and your initiative is appreciated. The English classes take place in a small village 10 mjn by bus from the hostel . The kids are super sweet and some are very eager to learn! I wanted to have a break from non stop moving while backpacking and it was the perfect experience. the home hostel is calm and quiet, so don't expect loads of things happening. Instead, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to relax, make an impact connect with locals :)!

My time at the home was amazing. It's a super cozy place right by the lake! The time with the kids and the other volunteers was good, and it's so fun to see the kids wanting to learn english. The rest of my time i took Spanish lessons and just relaxed at the hotel! there is a lot to do around El Remate and you get a lot of freedom. The work is fairly easy and go get a lot of time to relax. And for me taking care of the dogs was the best!!🐶😊

Fue mi primera experiencia y la verdad que hermoso despertar todos los días frente al lago y el trabajo principal fue dar clases de inglés básico a un grupo de niños que la experiencia de compartir con ellos fue única, Me gustaría volver y poder compartir más y aportar en el proyecto de Ricardo. Minha experiência com o Ricardo foi muito boa. Tive um quarto só para mim e o lugar estava sempre limpo e organizado. A vista para o lago Petén Itzá é simplesmente a melhor, algo inesquecível. O espaço tem um espírito de comunidade muito especial, que me permitiu conhecer pessoas locais e me sentir parte do lugar. O voluntariado é tranquilo, com um ambiente agradável para colaborar. Os alunos são excelentes: alegres, gentis e educados, o que tornou cada dia muito gratificante. Ricardo foi um ótimo anfitrião e sempre esteve disponível. Com certeza, um dia voltarei.

Had so much fun in the home. It's very quiet, so not the place if you're not prepared to just chill and enjoy the environment a lot. The guys at the house were lovely and included me in their plans and social activities. The kids were adorable too and so much fun. Would definitely love to go back

Fue casi un mes hermoso despertando frente al lago cada día. El hospedaje es muy cómodo y un ambiente relajado. Y el trabajo principalmente es dar clases de inglés básico y/o actividades a niños de edad entre 5 y 11 años en su escuela cerca y algunas veces ayudar en la casa. Me encantaría volver más veces por aquí y aportar más a los proyectos que tienen ❤️🙏 El remate es un lugar muy tranquilo, un paraíso Muchas gracias!!

This is a great place to volunteer if you're looking for something chill and relaxing! Ricardo is super laid back and flexible, and the lakefront view is perfect for lounging all day. There aren't too many tourists that come to El Remate, so you really get a chance to live like the locals. Ricardo included me in all his plans, so I got to meet and connect with the community and build my own friendships!

I enjoyed my stay with the home! the place is beautiful and Ricardo welcomed me with big arms! the children are so cute and adorable, it was hard to get their attention but playing with them was really fun :) I will miss this place and Thanks to Ricardo for everything!
