I was so lucky to have had Carol as my host for my first ever experience on Worldpackers — She's helpful and clear about explaining tasks (a lot of which I was rather new at), respectful and flexible about working hours, and kept us nourished with her *delicious* cooking. I learned so much, got to enjoy the quiet scenes of the small village, and immersed myself in nature during my time helping Carol. I'm so grateful for this experience, and I'll miss Mungo dog and the fluffy cats — Thank you for everything, and my well wishes for your new home! ❣️

Carol is the best host ever. She is so kind and she is always trying to make the volunteers feel comfortable. The food is wonderful and healthy. The accomodation is great. Working in the home and doing some construction I could learn a lot. She was always open to teach me. the home is an amazing project. This is a peaceful place perfect for people seeking connect with the nature.

My time helping Carol was really nice, even I was a bit sick for most of the time. She was aways very open to explain whatever I asked, from the job in the farm to the local history. The food that she prepared was great. Also I could participate of the one of the festivals in the city which was really pleasant as I could be more into to the local culture. And of course, Mungo, her dog was a great company and very friendly as well. And Cherven is a such a nice place, especially the ruins of the medieval town. Hardly recommend.

The home became my the home shelter. Everything that Carol is doing there is breathtaking. Her approach to the way of living, her creativity and opened mind inspire me so much. The work was different, mostly physical, but that was exactly what i wanted and needed. I felt like we were creating a special place where human and nature become one. I will miss you, Carol, your cats and Mango. I will miss Cherven, too.

I had a great time here. Work was tiring but reasonable and Carol kept me well fed with her good cooking. Living quarters were on the second floor and I was the only volunteer for most of the time I was there so I felt I had plenty of privacy. Mostly a very quiet area except for some jackals partying at night off in the distance. I learned how to use a pitchfork and an easier way to clear ground with a shovel.

Carol is an incredible person, very kind, intelligent and a great cook. We worked in the home picking potatoes and plums and also inside the house doing construction and restoration work. I learned about natural construction techniques and had a very funny time with Carol and her dog Mungo. The place is very beautiful and surrounded by nature. There are trails near her house, a medieval citadel where I took Mungo for a walk with me and we had a relaxed time in contact with nature. I recommend this experience!

This was one of the best volunteer I've ever done. Carol was always concerned about our stay. She was super organized in every detail and always made all the work information clear. We helped with maintaining the vegetable the home, harvesting potatoes, renovating the walls of the house, rearranging the furniture and other things. I would definitely recommend this volunteering.

Due to unexpected health issues I was unfortunately unable to stay at the home with Carol for as long as I would have liked to. Carol is a lovely human being and truly cares about the well being of her volunteers. This was my fourth world packer experience and I must say the food and accommodation were some of the best I have had from one of these work holidays. The work load is fair, flexible , and enjoyable too. I would definitely recommend this experience to other travelers as the village of Cherven is a true hidden gem full of castles, cliffs, caves, and other beautiful nature.

I feel like I've made another new friend in Carol. She's a lovely woman and I really appreciated getting to know her better. She's a great cook and went out of her way to accommodate me. The work was mostly gardening and it was actually quite satisfying. The village is quiet and and the people I did met were all very nice. I loved my daily walks with Mungo (Carols sweet dog). I do recommend this volunteer experience !!

Our two week stay with Carol was a fantastic experience! The work was varied, fun, and Carol was great at teaching us lots about gardening practices in Bulgaria. We had the most delicious meals everyday - Carol makes the most amazing soups, as well as one of the best goat curries ever. Mungo, the dog, was an absolute joy to be around - bring your running shoes and take him for a run down to the local snack bar like I did. The accommodation is perfect for volunteers, and made the experience so easy and stress-free. Thanks so much, Carol, we really hope we bump into each other again soon 🙂🇧🇬.
