My experience at the reserve was absolutely incredible - I can hardly put into words everything I experienced and learned there! I am deeply grateful for every moment! From the very first day, I felt surrounded by open-hearted people who truly cared for one another. Especially working with the sea turtles was one of the most magical and unforgettable things I've ever done. Living in the jungle and spotting so many animals in their natural habitat made the experience even more unique. I can recommend this project to anyone who is ready for a adventure that will stay with you long after you leave!!

I had an amazing time!! The project is truly such a beautiful conservation effort and I was happy to be a part of it. The staff was incredibly welcoming and gave us clear schedules to follow. The team was increasing supportive when I had to sit out a morning patrol due to my foot injury. If you want to meet some great people and have a magical experience with the turtles on the beach, this is the place. Ps: make sure you bring snacks

I had an amazing experience at the reserve, I met so many amazing people and got to learn so much throughout my time there. From working with turtles to just spending time with everyone, I loved every part of it. I will always cherish the memories that I made through this experience and I 100% recommend this experience to everyone.

Volunteering with the reserve was an amazing experience! I loved getting to work up close with sea turtles and I learned a lot. You become fully immersed in nature here. It is very remote and no enclosed spaces so keep in mind it may not be for everyone. Everyone here was so friendly and I felt accepted right away. The host made it very easy to schedule any tours or activities. The only suggestion I have is that I wish I could have seen what our work was doing. What are we using the research for and what is its impact? I think it would be awesome to include volunteers in that. Thank you the reserve!

Thanks so much for this feedback Lydia, you are so right that understanding the greater context of the work is very important! Our data goes to the Costa Rican government for our conservation area (SINAC) that supports development of conservation strategy and policy making. We will find ways to incorporate this into our volunteer briefings going forward :) Thank you so much for coming it was so wonderful to have you!!

I had such a wonderful time volunteering with the reserve. For my first solo trip, I felt very safe with the hosts and other campers. Everyone was very friendly and understanding. I ended up not feeling well so I did come home early, but my camp coordinators didn't hesitate to help me figure out a plan to get back home. Our daily tasks were clearly laid out for us, and once we were finished, we had plenty of down time. We also got to visit the other camp and have some fun with them as well. While the work can be a bit tired, walking on the beach that is, it was a fun learning experience!

AMAZING! I was interning for 6.5 weeks with the reserve and could not have wished for a better experience! All of the people I got to work and live with were so welcoming, adventurous, bright, and very easy to work with. I came with the goal to improve my field research skills, and not only was I taught these skills, but was also taught about sea turtle biology and behavior. Could not recommend this experience more!

I absolutely loved my time volunteering at the reserve. I met such amazing people and learned so much. It was a great way to connect with nature and people from all around the world. All of the staff was great and super eager to teach. I was so sad to leave.

My experience at the reserve's Mariposa Campamento Carate was —however cliche this is— life-changing. Like everyone, I was nervous going in, but at its most basic it proved to be what I had expected, and at its most complex it was full of learning experiences, hugely rewarding, and exactly what I needed at this point in my life. I felt part of the project immediately, and although the work was hard at first, after adjusting I really enjoyed it. I had probably the best group of fellow vols & RAs ever and this program, filled with those wonderful people, will always have a special place in my heart.

I had an amazing three weeks at the reserve! The team is so welcoming and friendly, I met great people here. They were flexible with the schedule, and very accommodating to volunteer requests! There are so many animals on the property, and getting to see baby and nesting turtles was so special. If you feel comfortable living in a semi remote area close proximity to nature I'd highly recommend !

I loved my experience at the reserve. The staff and other volunteers were friendly and welcoming. I felt very safe at the camp as a solo female traveler. I had many unforgettable experiences in the two weeks that I stayed and made a lot of memories. This is a great experience for people who want to be in nature and are passionate about marine life. I have always wanted to volunteer with turtles and am glad I chose the reserve.
