Volunteering at the lodgewas such a unique experience! You are very immersed into the daily life of the family which provides an excellent opportunity to learn about their culture. A holiday occurred during my volunteer stay and the family made sure I understood their traditions and included me. We made pizza from scratch and after cooking it in the pizza oven we shared with the neighbors. The food is usually simple but tastes good and there's plenty to eat. Nelson was a lovely host and I enjoyed meeting all his family. I was able to improve my Spanish a lot with help from the family!

Nelson was a great host and I enjoyed my time staying with him and his family. My tasks involved painting a mural and helping the kitchen. I would recommend this experience for improving your Spanish as Nelson would sit and chat with us after dinner, speaking slowly and encourage us to speak in your begginer Spanish. Thank you Nelson for having me!

Mi estancia de una semana con Nelson y su familia en el alojamientoha sido muy bonita y gratificante. Más que un voluntariado al uso, es una inmersión cultural en una comunidad de Huaraz, en un entorno muy tranquilo, donde se aprende a valorar las pequeñas cosas. Las tareas principales fueron sencillas, ayudando a la familia en su día a día. Las comidas ricas y abundantes, con una mención especial a los tallarines de Nelson ;). Es una experiencia que te hace sumergirte en la cultura y costumbres de la gente de las montañas, viviendo la realidad más profunda de Perú. Gracias de nuevo familia!

I had an amazing stay with Nelson and his family. I helped Nelson by teaching English classes and painting a Mural. The food was simple but always delicious, fulfilling and especially, made with love by the mother. Nelson was always there if I needed anything, always getting out of his way so I could discover the Huaraz region on my days off. Nelson and his family have great projects and they need our help fulfilling them so don't hesitate to stay a few weeks with them! You won't regret it. Special mention to the adorable pets, especially Marco. Muchísimas gracias!

Los 10 días que pasamos con Nelson y su familia fueron realmente una experiencia increíble. Aprendimos mucho sobre la cultura, las costumbres y la forma de vivir en las montañas de Huaraz. Por supuesto, hay que disfrutar de la vida simple y de la naturaleza. Nelson, su hermano Christian y toda su familia nos recibieron muy bien, fueron muy amables y siempre atentos con nosotros. Fue una experiencia muy bonita que recomiendo a todos los amantes de la naturaleza que quieran descubrir la cultura del país y la de Huaraz. ¡Gracias, Nelson, y hasta la próxima!

Disfruté mucho de mi estancia con Nelson y su familia. Nos acogieron muy bien. Son gente muy agradable. En cuanto al trabajo, Nelson es muy flexible con sus horarios, lo que nos permitió hacer muchas excursiones durante nuestra estancia. El entorno es rústico, no hay que fijarse mucho en la limpieza, pero teníamos nuestra propia habitación, así que estaba bien. La comida era sencilla (arroz, maíz y patatas) pero siempre muy buena y saciante. Hablamos mucho con Neslon y su familia. Para mí fue una gran experiencia que me permitió conocer mejor su cultura y sus tradiciones. ¡Gracias Nelson!

I spent 3 incredible weeks with Nelson and Cristian! The work requested is always varied and rewarding with all the necessary explanations. the two brothers always make sure that we feel understood and supported, and offer many activities outside of working hours. this place is perfect to connect to nature and learn more about the inka culture!

I had a great time at Wilkathethe lodge. Nelson and his family treated me like one of their own and I had lots of time to explore the surrounding mountains and to go on day trips in the area. Great opportunity to practice Spanish, learn more about an interesting culture and to spend time outdoors. Highly recommend.

We had a fab week stay! The family made us feel so welcome, giving us time to explore the local area and traditions, being patient with our beginner Spanish and catering for us as vegetarians. Luckily for us, it was carnival, so we assisted with the family's preparations and were brought along to celebrations held by their friends/family. We learnt so much about their culture and felt welcomed by the community. We were always encouraged to rest after working and liked that the sleeping/resting space was separate from the family house which gave us privacy. ¡Muchisimo gracias!
