Détails du programme

We own 5 acres of land in rural Aberdeenshire on the edge of the village of Rhynie.

This includes meadows, small woodland and large wildlife pond, small orchard, cottage garden (flowers) and fruit and vegetable garden (and greenhouse).

As teachers by day, we are grateful for help with the various gardening tasks throughout the season. This can range from weeding, cultivating, sowing, harvesting, grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, managing our home made compost, making bio-char, maintenance of paths and structures, painting outbuildings and much more.

There are other opportunities to help with household tasks and maintenance, in our home or Bothy (small AirBnB).

We will seek to match the tasks to your skills, and interests within the range of jobs needing done.

No experience needed, but an openness to learn and good work ethic is helpful.

In 2024 we had 3 guests, one guest at a time. In the 2025 season we were blessed with a total of 18 guests overlapping over the year. In 2026 we will continue to host guests based on upon the available accomodation.

Accommodation will be based on one of the following;

Our Spacious 5m Glamping Tents - Configured as double or 2 singles, with integrated wood burning stove. Use of toilet/kitchen facilities within our home.

Hazel's room - A small double bedroom within our home, when not in use by family.

The Bothy - a small self-contained guest studio normally used as an AirBnB, when not hosting commercial guests.

Shared use of our Summer House (seating, table, music, Wifi), outdoor seating areas and fire bowl.

A range of bikes are available to borrow at guests' own risk, bike helmets are mandatory (provided by us).

Activités et horaires

When not in school, we enjoy working alongside guests to move projects forward. Monday to Friday we generally both work during the day, but we will agree with you in advance a range of tasks to suit your interests and abilities. You will choose when in the day, and which days you work, fitting this around the weather, your own other interests and exploring rural Aberdeenshire.

Sustainable gardening is our main focus, but our weeds always grow faster than our produce so this is a key activity we need your help with.

While not fully organic, we believe in living in harmony with the land and wildlife as far as possible.

Other tasks could include cultivating, sowing, harvesting, grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, managing our home-made compost, making bio-char, maintenance of paths and structures, painting outbuildings and much more. Large scale (moving earth mounds) to small scale (sowing tiny seeds).

Depending on the season of your visit, there may be opportunities to be involved in harvest and preserving of vegetables, plums, apples, pears, berries or other produce including wild Chanterelle and Porcini mushrooms.

There may be times when your help would be appreciated with some housekeeping tasks, either in helping prepare accomodation for other worldpacker guests, paying AirBnB guests in the Bothy, or helping us around the home with some basic cleaning.

There may be opportunities for shared cooking as appropriate to our guests at any given time.

Every second weekend, we will try and do some local sightseeing/excursions. Guest are also free to join us on our daily commute as a way to explore the wider area in their own time.
