Volunteers, preferably with dog shelter experience or working with dogs, are required throughout the year. Other true and committed dog lovers, who are willing to go the extra mile for the dogs, are very welcome to apply also.

Volunteers are especially required to start from early-October onwards to the end of the year and into 2026. Monica is unable to take care of the many adult dogs (all are non-aggressive) at the shelter due to her risk of falling which could be very serious for her health and brittle bones.

So far, Monica has welcomed volunteers from UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North & South America and Canada. Volunteers from other countries NOT requiring a Romanian visa are also welcome to apply.

Actividades & Turnos

DAILY ROUTINE
Volunteer tasks begin around 8 am. The puppies are fed and cleaned. After that, all of the adult dog runs have to be cleaned and the dogs from each kennel can be allowed out to play whilst their kennel is being cleaned. Strictly, only the dogs from one kennel are allowed out at a time. Fresh water is provided. Once all of the adult dogs have been cleaned, the feeding of the dogs can begin.

There is usually time for a cup of coffee before feeding the dogs. Normally, Monica prepares the food for the dogs and the volunteers take the bowls to specific dogs. Depending on the number of volunteers, this work is generally done by 11.30 am/12 pm.

The hardest part of the day is over. Volunteers have some free time. Many volunteers choose to continue helping the dogs by taking photos for social media to promote the dogs for adoption. Socialisation of the dogs and puppies is very important. Handling and playing with the puppies, walking some of the dogs on a leash or just sitting in one of the dogs' pens so they get used to humans again.

During the day, unforeseen tasks can arise. Helping to carry bags of dog food, unexpected arrival of puppies or dogs and the vet comes almost daily and at no fixed time. Monica needs help to have the dogs and puppies brought to the vet.

Around 3.30 pm in the winter and 5 pm in the summer months, i.e. before it gets dark, the dogs and puppies need to be cleaned again and topped up with water but this is easier than the morning shift. It takes about 1.5 hours.

Reglas

KEEP COMMUNAL AREAS AND OWN ROOM CLEAN AND TIDY
Volunteers have a whole house available. There are 4 bedrooms, bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. These areas need to be kept clean and tidy at all times. The kitchen and hall tiled floors need to be mopped daily. Monica naturally wants her things handled with care.

NO SHELTER ANIMALS ALLOWED IN THE HOUSE
In addition, no animals from the shelter are allowed to enter the main house.

NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE
Monica asks any smokers to smoke outside.
