Highly recommend this experience! Sarah is amazing to work with and an even better person. She has a talent at picking really cool volunteers- everyone is so welcoming and has an interesting background. My time here felt like a home away from home. You won't regret staying here!

Guardians is a beautiful and welcoming space, a great place to detox from the stresses of the world. Sarah has really dedicated herself to many different projects to benefit the surrounding community. Volunteers like myself also got a taste of what it's like to live off the earth, eat nutritious food, be one with nature and work in a community/ team environment. Highly recommend the experience and getting to know Sarah

I really enjoyed my time at El Establo. It was incredible to spend some time in such a peaceful and awe-inspiring environment whilst getting stuck into some work. The project taking place here is quite impressive as there is so much going and is more and more becoming a central part for the local community. It was such a pleasure to get to know the locals and I am grateful to have been a part of their lives even for such a short period of time.

This is a great place to meet other international volunteers. The locals — Nelly, Pascuala, José, Pepe, and others — really helped to teach new tasks. I would recommend light layers (long sleeves, pants, high socks) as well as a hat, bug spray, sunscreen, and work boots. The location is close to a river, Incan ruins, Quillabamba, and other expeditions that could be fun on the weekends. You are encouraged to experiment in the kitchen and be creative. Sarah is definitely busy with her work, but she also had some specific expectations for the work, and sometimes it wasn't communicated clearly.

The best part of the project was meeting the other travelers. The work was hard somedays and fairly easy other days. Lots of picking fruit and vegetables and honestly moving dirt around. I wasn't expecting to be in the jungle as much as it was but there are many bugs and it gets hot during the day, you'll definitely need long sleeves and bug spray. Laundry and wifi are 5 soles each if you need it. Sarah was very welcoming but on occasion lacked organization as she was busy. Nice farm and great local employees. If you enjoy cooking and have ambition this would be great for you.

Yes, absolutely, I agree - (except for the organization because it takes a lot of it to run the projects we do) - but I absolutely agree that this is the Farm, especially, for inexperienced guests.

Kindly, if you want to come read welcome pdf that we send out to applicants because has more details and can help us attract people would fair better here. This September was usually hot, and our area had many fires.

I enjoyed both of you as guests as well. As a host, it would have been lovely if we could have addressed other areas of concerns while you were here. We also hoped we accommodated the bug issues by you being in the kitchen, with your wife, Sofia, for most of the stay because there are far less bugs inside. Had I known there were others perhaps it may have resulted in a better experience for you and all others involved.

The project is beautiful place filled with potential. Nevertheless, the agreed tasks were not respected. I applied for a research role on local biodiversity but ended up painting the house. The host left little room for guidance or healthy communication for volunteer needs. In various situations, I felt I could not express my thoughts, as there was only space for Sarah. This experience was sadly very disappointing and I do not recommend it. Previously, I wrote an honest review based on my experience and somehow it was taken off the platform. I believe all sides must be heard.

Oh Sophia, I am so sorry we could not accommodate you doing more 'research' for us. We definitely had hoped you had the skills to be more helpful there. Our research teams need to respect and carefully use our often expensive, research tools. If a volunteer is not respecting that we cannot let a person use them. I know you are aware that we addressed this several times. Painting was a compromise for us.

Also our local employees and our local manager work with the volunteers full time because I have very limited time and am managing multiple projects. Even though, I met several times with you and even honored that you wanted me to be quiet before our meetings, in spite of that extra level of accomodation, it seems we could not improve your stay here.

I wish while you were here you could have felt the heart of our project, see what we are trying to share with people - taking care of the planet, helping our community - protecting pollinators - being kind. It is really cool when people contribute to that. Thanks.

I beleive Sarah is a great person. But she kicked me out after couple hours. We had a misunderstanding. She asked me to bring mangos. So I did. Did not want to carry the price of the mangos in my head so I texted it to her. I mentioned that I would like to start well with her. For some reason she saw it as a threath. I understand she was stressed out as she is dealing with a lot of challenges. I appreciated that we prayed before I left and a volunteer helped me to carry my stuff to near village. There is a learning for both of us. Afterall, I feel greatful about this experience.

Thanks for your reply Simon. Yes, I did ask you to leave right away. Simon sent a strange text to me about and hour after he arrived. He was threatening to leave early because he needed money for some mangoes he bought for us when he was on his way. I was out on a walk. The message was just very weird and it made me feel like it would be better to have him go. He was already in the local area and I approved his last minute stay 2 days before. We fed him lunch + bought him dinner + paid for a hotel + have him 120 soles. He asked for more money the next day as well but I feel we did enough. Hope you find your way.

The time spent at the project was very fulfilling. There were other international volounteers and together with Sarah and local workers, we immediately bond to work together as a group. The place is just magical and Sarah is always a step ahead to think about new activities that can enrich the project and the community.

I can't summarise how special the project is in words, especially not in a short review. Sarah is the most wonderful, uplifting, supportive and kind person. The work she does at the farm and for the community (and for the world!) is so inspiring. Working on the farm never really felt like work, as we were allowed to use our initiative and channel into our skills and hobbies, and could work on projects we enjoyed and were passionate about. You are trusted more than most volunteering opportunities which I really appreciated, and it made your contribution feel even more special. Thank you 🩷

The project is a very peaceful place that offers a lot of flexibility in regard to tasks and daily schedule. Sarah, the host, is very welcoming, and I enjoyed her positive attitude. The workers at the farm, are kind and helpful. I really enjoyed the fresh food that we had the joy of preparing and eating every day. The other volunteers were amazing. This is also a great place to volunteer if you would like to da weekend trip to Machu Picchu, as it is not too far. Sarah has great plans for the farm and wants to see the community prosper.
