The hostel is a great place where u can meet people from all over the world and party every night. The workers are nice, friendly and always ready to help you. I worked the night shift most of the time (11pm-3am) mostly running/bartending, sometimes can be tiring but it depends on the day if the bar is more or less crowded. Maybe the first days I feel a bit disoriented just because nobody welcomes you but after I started working it becomes easier and I started enjoying it. The downside is the kitchen which is poorly equipped. I really enjoyed this experience and recommend it

Management is very flexible with the date of the trip, so it's very nice. Good located. 95% of staff is very nice and friendly. You only work 4 hours of day and they respect that. A good place to have fun because of the party/events. Things that were not as good for me: I got a lot of morning shifts, mornings are crazy with too many tasks, working like a part time employee or more. Sometimes heavy tasks like carrying suitcases. There is food waste, not eco friendly. The kitchen is not well equipped to cook your own meals. I think what is offered is not balance with what volunteers give.

It was a good experience. We met beautiful people: from the staff to all the other volunteers; we really improve our English language. However there are some conditions you have to adapt to:small rooms (we were 6, then 8, in a room without a sink and so much space for our stuff); sometimes you can't use the kitchen; Depends who you work with you don't have much time to stay at bar because you will be busy in various cleaning or bar/kitchen restock; You'll be treated like a real part-time worker. People are helpful, but I think what is offered is not balanced with what volunteers give.

I had a great time at the hostel! Staff was lovely and very helpful. There are some issues, however. 1. The kitchen is not well equipped, nor can you use it whenever you like. 2. Communication should be improved upon. It's common to not receive a reply to questions before arriving. During my experience there were also a few instances of poor communication: changed shifts without notifiying other staff or volunteers arriving without a room ready to host them. It requires flexibility. However, management is also flexible; you're free to switch shifts and I was able to stay an extra night.

Volunteering at the cph the hostel was real nice and fun. But some things were unexpected so above all you need to be very flexible. First, you cannot use the kitchen anytime, you have to ask before cooking (sometimes you can't because it's busy so you have to find another way to eat). 2) I changed rooms 4 times in a month. 3) Some assignments were deep cleaning tasks that no one told us about. Also no training at the bar, so get ready! + heavy lifting. 4) You can use the laundry anytime but you have to pay for it first and then you get reimbursed.

Hi Camille,

Thank you for the feedback - I do consider you and Violaines comments a bit harsh. The add is called Volunteers for bartending/ reception and housekeeping - Eventhough wouldnt consider the daily bar work being housekeeping, Its true you cant use the kitchen 24/7 - I did say about this before hand though. I am unsure what you mean about heavy lifting? a crate of beer? We have trolleys ect for everything so very little heay lifting involved.

I had a good time at this place because it's festive and welcoming. You have discount on everything and free hot drinks which is great ! Also the workers were really nice to us. However, few things can be improved. You can't have access to the kitchen whenever you want since it's the restaurant's kitchen and it is not well equiped to cook proper meal. The hygiene wasn't quiete good too. About the work, don't think that you'll only bartend. I had to clean a lot especially in the hostel, not in the bar. it is hard to bartend, you don't really have the time to learn.

Everything was Ok. If you want to learn and get experience in a bar setting, this is definitely the place, as well if you want a great party environment, I would recommend it. I do think the work tasks you do and what you receive aren't quite equal, as volunteers are made to do basically the same as the paid employees, plus a bit more of the "dirty" work and aren't treated with the same respect as the staff. You get 50% off at the bar, and as the kitchen is shared with the bar, you have to ask before cooking. All the staff were very welcoming though, and definitely made the experience better!

I really enjoyed my time in the hostel! Everyone from the staff was really friendly and welcoming and you only worked in the bar and in the kitchen, which was quiet easy and entertaining. Only the evening shifts on the weekend are going to be a bit stressful, but bearable. Most of the other volunteers were also super friendly and I made a lot of new friends. The rooms for the volunteers could be a bit larger and in better condition, but all in all they are fine to sleep in.

My stay at The Copenhagen Downton Hostel was really amazing, The hostel is truly the best in town with a brilliant atmosphere always full of people and fun, while the working experience gave me the chance to find nice people working with me that made my day better. on the practical sidethe job is quite basic but also gives you the opportunity of learning useful skills, overall I really liked it and would come back again, thanks everyone!
