Please refrain from volunteering if you anticipate seeking employment elsewhere in the hostel or if you require even a semi-structured schedule. The hostel operates solely with volunteers, and communication from the hosts is severely lacking. Upon arrival, there was no established schedule or assigned shifts. Despite requests from volunteers, attempts to implement a schedule were never effectively executed. Volunteering here would make it challenging to maintain another job due to the unpredictable hours and tasks, leaving volunteers uncertain about expectations.

This was my first Worldpackers and Luke / Jamie are so lovely and truly made me feel the hostel was home. Pizza Fridays and drinking with them all was so fun!! A few times there were people who dropped out or got there and left very quickly as they didn't know what to expect making the hours long some weeks however the hostel has it's charm and if you do your research it can be amazing I climbed mount larcom twice visited some of the islands, on there jet ski once!! I feel I made really good connections with locals. I had to leave quite abruptly however I'd definitely return it was lovely x

I had a lot of fun during my stay. I met tons of other travellers and many locals that made me feel very welcome. Luke and Jaeme (owner and manager) are wonderful people but are often busy with other commitments within the community. I think they could greatly improve the hostel by bringing on a full-time manager to keep an eye on things in their absence. The hostel runs very smoothly with heaps of downtime when each volunteer commits to their duties. the hostel itself isn't awfully exciting but every adventure was very fun! Although, if you want to go on an adventure you have to organize it.

We had a good time and loved the other volunteers. Jaeme and Luke are trying their best but they also work fulltime which means that the hostel is mostly managed by the volunteers. However they come by almost every night for dinner. The hostel itself is small and cosy but there is nothing much to do in the hostel. They have a hostel car which we used to drive to the beach (30 min by car) but you can't surf there or get surf lessons. We got a shift plan which includes morning shift (7-10am), cleaning (ca 2 hours starting at 10am) and bar (5-10pm) which is split between volunteers (fair)

When i first got there, the Hostel has just had a change in management. Therefore it was a lot of work that had to be done, which i didn't mind, but can be hard some days. Generally we had a shiftplan for the week, which made it easier. Luke & Jaeme who run this place are great, If anything's wrong, they have an open ear for you. the hostel itself isn't the most exciting city. Unfortunately there's not much to do. So this experience overall for me was to learn new skills (cooking, driving, maintainance), to understand & get in touch witch the Aussie life & learn about myself.

The True Aussie Experience!
And you fitted right in. It was a pleasure seeing you grow while with us, building life long friendships and being creative (refelting the pool table - which everyone loves! & making some awesome drone video's). Was great for your surprise visit also.
Thank you for choosing to stay with us :)

I really enjoyed working at the hostel. Jaeme and Luke are very friendly hosts. I worked at check-in and at the bar for two weeks. So I was in direct contact with customers, it wasn't always easy to understand the local accent, but the Australians are so nice that we ended up understanding each other 😂 I worked more than expected because there There was a time when we were short of volunteers, but it didn't matter. During our rest time we could go to the beach, on the boat or enjoy the swimming pool. It was chill!

I had such an great experience and felt very welcomed and a part of the family. Jeame also tried to organize activities we could do, such as go on the jet skis and drive on the beach so a big shout out to her :). I didn't get any days of, but the tasks were very easy and I never said anything about it.

The experience was quite positive despite some stressful aspects. If you're a receptionist AND a bartender, you'll have to work well over 25 hours. I'm not someone who counts every minute of my shift, but some shifts are over 10 hours when you have to deal with guests early and close the bar at night. It's also important to note that while Jeame and Luke really do their best, in my opinion, this place really needs a manager on site 24/7 (to streamline the day-to-day organization). The last few days before I left were a bit more organized and clear, and the staff was really friendly.
