Summer babysitting in Lucca, Tuscany

I don't recommend this volunteering program. You don't actually get the 3 meals a day because they buy really basic food and not enough for everyone so you will need to buy your own groceries. Our rooms are not the ones shown in the photos, our rooms are basic, with old beds and my sheets had blood stains. Services like wifi or hot water are limited. Hosts are rude and talk bad about other girls. Their son is not “energetic” he is rude and aggressive. If you get kicked out honestly is one of the best things that could happen to you. I could write a lot of things but the app doesn't allows me

I did not have the best experience here but I would say that there're pros and cons Pros: - in a gorgeous area of Tuscany, the views are beautiful - all of the other volunteers were so lovely, a really really wonderful group of girls Cons: - the pictures of the rooms and house is not where you're staying, that is the farm (where you might be working) but it is much nicer than where you are actually staying (half furnished living room, very few basic necessities etc etc) -the host and I did not end on great terms but this might just be my experience!

Claudia, thank you for the review. The farmhouse is the place where the volonteers usually works (4 times per week with 3 days off!) The apartment where the VOLONTEERS (NOT TOURISTS) stay has 4 big bedrooms, 4 bathrooms a big kitchen a super large living room. We provide accommodation, food, electricity, hot water and wifi every single day of the volonteers stay. You were having a bath with candles every evening to relax, request special food for your mental health and more other things... It was absolutely not respectful to the other volunteers and to us! We work 7 days and 14/15 h per day. We just needed help, not a problem or a call from you every 2 hours that something was wrong or not comfortable. BTW, you worked just 1 day (2 hours) and you stayed 10 days at the apartment having baths, eating, drinking, sleeping and having fun with the other volonteers!

This was my first world packers trip and it was great! Eleonora and Marco are very friendly, hospitable and accommodating. It was lovely spending time with them and their adorable four year old son as well. The work on the groves is easy to get the hang of. It can be tiring but it's not difficult and I had plenty of time off. Prepare to be flexible with when you work to compensate for any rainy days. Make sure to bring warm clothing and appropriate shoes. The views are spectacular and Lucca is a very cute town, and Eleonora and Marco were always willing to give us a ride.

My experience at the farm was great. As with every volunteering experience, things are not necessarily as you expect them, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. For me there was an adaption period before I felt fully comfortable at the farm but at the end I'm glad I was part of this volunteering. On my first weeks the work and schedule was very demanding (even more than agreed) but in the last weeks I enjoyed more free time that I could have asked for. For this kind of volunteering it all really depends on the weather. I strongly recommend rain boots if you are volunteering here!

This was an amazing experience and perfect for people who are doing there first work away or first bit of solo travel like myself. Having three days off a week meant there was plenty of opportunity to travel around Italy outside of Lucca. The work is simple but can get a little stressful at times, overall nothing too strenuous at all. Eleanora and Marco are amazing hosts, super kind, helpful with great humour. I truly appreciate the opportunity they have given me being able to stay and work at the farm.

I had a wonderful 3 weeks at the farm, and Marco and Eleonora were really nice people. After a short while I felt really home at the place. The work hours were perfect, and the work fun and not difficult at all. They were super good at communication and they helped me a lot due to some health problems, and I never felt like a burden, even though I was sad about the health problems. Thanks for a lovely time, I hope to see you again!

This is a great volunteer experience if you are looking to escape and seek a bit of solitude. You're in a very quiet area with pretty limited service, so it was nice to disconnect and experience something new! However, there is no local bus so travel can be a challenge sometimes. The location is nice though! Close to hiking trails and is very scenic. The work is pretty taxing and sometimes quite physical. Once you learn everything it does become easier. Marco and Eleonora were kind and respectful during my stay! Marco would provide groceries as we needed and was great with me being vegan.

I had a great experience in the farm. The volunteer house is located 10 min walking away from the hotel and we had the whole house to ourselves. About the food, we cooked at home to ourselves and Marco brought us grocery based on a list we made from time to time without hesitation. In relation to the job, me and the other volunteer girl worked from thursday to sunday at 4 pm until midnight, more or less. The job wasn't exactly very pleasent to do and could be a little stressful sometimes, but it was easy to learn and automatic after some practice.

This is the perfect spot if you are looking to disconnect, enjoy the natural surroundings, and explore Northern Italy on the weekends. The solitude and simplicity of living was awesome. The job itself is simple- but it requires you to sacrifice certain morals to paying customers. We knowingly serve raw meat, are scolded if you wash dirty dishes with soap b/c its a 'waste of time,' use food we dropped on the ground, and have to re-serve food guests didn't eat off their plates to other unknowing guests who pay a lot to eat there.

Natalie, first of all we would like to thank you for your help. Well, we are not surprise that at the other volonteer place asking you to leave asap. It is 10 years that we are hosting volunteers and it is always a pleasure, but we decided to let you stay because you didn't have any other place to stay. Anyway, the things that you are saying are not true. We have a very efficient dishwasher and is a reason why we don't wash the plates 2 times. Also, we don't use the food of the clients again, because they don't leave anything in their plates :-) maybe is a reason why we are always fully booked?!?
