I had a great time at the farm! Rick is a great teacher, and the work is really interesting. We chiseled, split wood and put rafters on the house. Learned a lot of skills and problem solving. The food was so good missing the bread already 😁 The accommodation is tents, a little cold and wet if you are planning on going in autumn. The tents are spacious and comfy otherwise! The Lake District is beautiful and definitely worth visiting. Thank you for the great stay and I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on the house!

I would recommend this experience to everyone, whether you've got experience in building or not. It was physical work, but it wasn't too hard and i felt well looked after regarding physical health !! I also met the most amazing people and Rick and Ruthie are everything you'd look for in a Host. I felt very welcome and we made a great Team!!

I had the most amazing experience! Rick and Ruthie both provided what was needed and did so much more than that. The energy was one of unity and friendship. All of the people that I worked with were people that you don't find easily, every single one of them is amazing. This is all I hoped my first volounteering experience would turn out like and I know I will cherish this experience forever. Thank you :) P.S. Make sure you bring your warmest clothes, especially in October!! It's really cold.

Rick and Ruthie are the most welcoming of households, teaching me so much about woodwork and keeping me fuels with meals and treats throughout the day. Would love to come back again next year and keep up the progress - hopefully a little earlier in the season before the weather drops for staying in a tent!!

This was a great experience. Rick and Ruthie were amazing hosts, providing great food and a food place to sleep. The work was fun and easy, nothing complicated. I had the chance to meet some great people in the other volunteers and going out to experience some of the lake district. I am a little sad I was not able to see the house being built, but the time I had was amazing. Thank you for having me.

A place to call home, and a family to call yours. Really real, Rick and Ruth are the true hosts, they treat you with a lot of respect, love, education. I loved the experience, it was so incredible that I wanted to stay, the food was wonderful, there wasn't a day that I ate poorly, the work was easy, Rick was an excellent teacher and his passion for the project was so intense that he made you dream together. Final words are gratitude, I loved this time with you, thank you, Rick, for allowing me to be part of not only your Finchleys, but also your life. you and ruth are such amazing people. ❤️‍

I had a great time during my stay. rick and ruthie were amazing hosts. i learned a lot about building natural eco house as well as about the lake district! it was lovely meeting their neighbours as well and seeing a sense of social community amongst them was heartwarming! i enjoyed having delicious meals together with them and the volunteers and exploring the beautiful nearby hikes and walks!

It was a fantastic experience to stay with Rick and Ruthie for two weeks. The co-housing community is full of warm, friendly and interesting people. I felt welcomed in as part of a closely knit team, eating great vegan and vegetarian food together at the table and exploring the Lake District with three other volunteers (I had access to my car). The project is brilliantly interesting and I gained some round wood carpentry skills alongside a keen insight into what a project like this really takes. Overall a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone enthusiastic to work and socialise

Spent a solid 10 days sleeping in a tent when it was cold and rainy (not for the weak) but had a blast with the other volunteers! i didn't particularly enjoy the construction itself but did love to do the smaller work that needed to get done for the whole structure to work (wedges & pegs) the food was soooo delicious (thank you ruthie) i am incredibly grateful that i got the chance to learn more about the building process.
