Lamento decir que tuve una mala experiencia y no recomendaría ir a este lugar.

Work as a volunteer in the hostel was a great experience! Nicolas is friendly and work is quite easy. I could practice a lot of English and be in contact with people around the world. Salas is a beautiful village, with a lot of trails do go on hikes and be in contact with nature. However I decided to leave earlier because I was looking for a place to practice Spanish and Nicolas was really apprehensible. I wish all the best to the hostel and buen camino to all peregrines and volunteers.

I highly recommend it! The volunteer experience was incredible! I really enjoyed being part of the volunteer team, especially because it was something related to the Camino de Santiago. Nicolaas was always kind and attentive to me. The team of volunteers from various countries around the world was fun and welcoming. Thank you Nicolas, Cristina, Dana, Jordan and Sophie!

The opportunity to be in the albergue with Nicolaas and the team was a unique adventure in my life. I have learned so much about people, about myself, and about collective life. Nicolaas is a kind and purposeful soul that takes the albergue as his number 1 priority in life. For that, the work can become intense sometimes, but everything can be solved by talking and signaling what needs to change. Nicolaas was always very open and made sure I felt supported during my stay! Salas is a cute city, with kind people with a typical Asturias way of living.

This was my first volunteering experience through this platform, and - wow. While I had no high expectations whatsoever other than contributing to a cause and learning about the Camino through volunteering, what I actually became a part of was a community. Nicolaas is a person that brings people together. He brought myself, Ana, Jamie and Valentina into a community where we were working not only on the albergue together, but sharing life experiences and making lasting memories with one another. This will truly be the experience of a lifetime. Buen Camino!

The hostel in Salas is great for disconnecting from your phone, enjoying the nature and embracing the camino! The food budget was excellent so I was able to keep costs extremely low and explore other parts of Asturias during my days off. Most importantly, I had a great team! The living situation is not best (bedroom and volunteer space) to live in the when not working and away from the pilgrims (who understandably take priority of the main kitchen area). During our stay we worked hard improving the situation for volunteers and I hope it keeps improving!

Nice venture in Salas, a charming medieval town, creating wonderful memories with an amazing volunteers' team and connecting with pilgrims. The well-organized and structured work shifts advisable for dedicated, serious volunteers eager to go the extra mile and embrace Nico's special way of managing his hostel. While the workload can sometimes be intense, it can be compensated for when requested and stressed upon. Nico is a kind-hearted man once you get to know him better. An enjoyable experience, allowing you to explore Asturias and make amazing friends along the way.

Salas is is very beautiful medieval town, that had everything that you need for a quite life. It was so much fun immersing into the town life for a month. In the beginning I had to get warm with the workload and it is possible like in any hospitality experiences, that you might have some more work on some days. Nico was cooperative with compensating the hours, when reminded. I can say that some people might have to get used to the strict rules of the albergue. But if you do that, it can become an enjoyable experience. He created a wonderful place for social encounters and enjoyment.

I was in the hostel from mid-April to late May 2024. The position was listed as Social Media, but my role ended up involving reception duties and designing some docs. While the experience wasn't great for me, I always invite people to have their own experience. In my opinion, the atmosphere felt constantly stressful, making it a challenging place to live and work. Salas is a small town, and the weather during the spring is cold and rainy. Unfortunately, there isn't a proper space with a table and chair for use during free time, just the place to share with pilgrims.

Nicolaas is a very sensitive man with big human values. If you are a quiet person and you like peaceful places this volunteerism is for you.
