Help us with our sea turtle conservation project in Drake Bay!

Por loemos mi experiencia no fue nada agradable ni cómoda. Era un proyecto por el cual esperé mucho tiempo y con ansias, el cual resultó lejos de mis expectativas. Para nuestra mala suerte cuando llegamos al lugar ya no habían tortugas (algo que esta lejos de ser controlado por el equipo), pero el trabajo que realizamos no era nada relacionado con estas, nos tuvieron haciendo un hoyo para un futuro baño y limpiando el jardin. Por otro lado en el lugar daban la electricidad 2 horas al dia, puesto que llega a ser sumamente peligroso para el tema de los alimentos, por su cadena de frio.

Hi Sofia. We're obviously disappointed that you and Nicolas (not a member of the Worldpackers community) didn't enjoy the activities as much as the other volunteers, many of whom have left 4 or 5 star reviews here for the same period.

In rural Costa Rica, many projects do not have any electricity at all, and we managed the project since 2006 without the need for a refrigerator. We are blessed that we have a generator, and as it says clearly in the volunteer manual, the electricity is available for 2 hours per day. Most volunteers are appreciative of this.

The volunteer manual also makes clear when the nesting and hatching seasons are, and what kind of work we do outside of the turtle season. We greatly appreciate the effort that are volunteers make in helping us to expand and maintain the infrastructure that we need in order to protect the turtles and deter illegal egg poaching. Our volunteers are normally very happy support is with this work.

We would recommend that next time, when you work at a Worldpackers project, that you read the volunteer manual prior to arrival, and that you come with an open mind and ask yourself: how can I help this community?, rather than just thinking about what you should be entitled to.

What a wonderful experience! Alba and Manuel were incredibly warm, welcoming, and supportive. The accommodation is set in a stunning location right by the beach, offering a truly rustic and immersive connection with nature. Since it wasn't turtle season, there weren't many turtle-related tasks, but we kept busy with beach clean-ups and other meaningful activities like making coconut milk and painting beach signs. Without a car, getting around can be a bit challenging, but if you're looking to slow down and reconnect with nature, this is the perfect place. Thank you so much!

What an awesome experience! Alba and Manuel were so lovely, helpful and welcoming. The accommodation is right on the beach and a rustic immersion with nature. It wasn't turtle season so we didn't have much to do, mostly some beach cleaning and other activities like painting signs. It's a little tricky to get around without a car but if you are looking to slow down and enjoy nature this is a great spot. Thank you so much!!

Volunteering at ACOTPRO is such a unique experience. You feel truly immersed in the local culture, living on the beach, chatting to the staff and the locals who join for volleyball etc! I loved my stay there. I was helping with social media and marketing so although I wasn't involved with the animals directly I was able to collect content of the camp and in the lagoon and make social media posts with previous photos and videos. Alba and Manuel are great hosts and I can only imagine how fun it is in full turtle season! Also, they catered for my dietary requirements which I really appreciated.

This was my first Worldpackers trip and it was incredible. Even though it wasn't turtle season we still got to be hands on with a few nests, and it was so much fun and educational!! Manuel and Alba were amazing hosts and all the locals were so nice! I highly recommend ACOTPRO, and I hope I can come back during turtle season this year or next!

This was such an amazing experience and I highly recommend to anyone new to traveling! Alba and Manuel were so kind and accommodating along with all of the other Acotpro volunteers! The food was delicious, the environment was beautiful, and the people were so welcoming. We had the opportunity to see and excavate turtle nests even in the off season which was so amazing and we learned so much! Acotpro is so peaceful and such a nice escape from reality. So grateful for this experience🤍

I had such a wonderful time at ACOTPRO. The hosts were lovely and welcoming and I met lots of other volunteers too. The location is beautiful and the meals were delicious. We had a variety of tasks from turtle excavations to beach cleaning, all of which were very enjoyable. We did lots of activities outside too like boating trips, hikes and swimming. Thank you for making this such an amazing and memorable experience.

The place is absolutely stunning, and I got to enjoy beautiful sunsets every evening. Since it wasn't turtle season, my tasks varied between gardening, cleaning the beach, and maintaining the accommodation. However, I was still lucky enough to see some baby turtles! The hosts were always available to offer advice and help us find information. They also organized affordable canoe trips through the nearby mangrove, which was a great experience. Spending these two weeks with other Worldpackers was amazing—we went on great hikes and shared unforgettable moments together.
