I had a mixed experience volunteering with this hostel. The positives—it is a fun environment with a great social vibe. It is easy to make friends and fun if you like to party. I recommend this experience if you are outgoing and love a drink! Some feedback: the volunteering experience isn't as advertised. It says 25 hours per week, but no volunteer does that few hours. They ask volunteers to do all activities like pub crawls and day activities in addition to those hours (and it's expected you do these extra hours). Also, it's more like 1-2 meals a day (basic meals) as food budget is small

If i had seen the pictures of the accommodations beforehand i would not have gone there. The hours were definitely more than expected. I stayed at the urban and for me the amount of food that was offered was good, everyday we would make volunteer shopping so it always had enough. I had the best time talking to the guests and going out at night everyday. I was supposed to stay for 15 days but stayed only 10 because i got really sick and i only had the cleaning job and using cleaning products wasn't helping By the end, i got used to the hardwork and i kind of miss the sense of community

My 5 weeks in Wild elephant were great! The party is amazing there, I met so many cool guests from different parts of the world and other volunteers were great but be ready that the work hours are pretty intense.

This is the worst hostel I have ever volunteered at. Let me explain why. First of all, the 16-person dormitory we stayed in was stuffy, crowded and had only one window, which did not open to the outside but to a corridor. The 4th floor of the hostel was reserved only for the managers. Although it was stated on social media or in the hostel's bible that “this hostel belongs to guests and volunteers”, the volunteers, or rather free laborers, are accommodated in inhumane conditions. In fact, this is why most volunteers who come to Urbana leave early (like me) and o have not enough space for cont.

The Elephants Hostels respondido

Dear Ismail,

I believe there are some things that you didn't fully understand during your stay with us. First of all, multiple of our house rules were broken by you. The work we expect from our volunteers is not different than any other hostel that works with volunteers.

About the 4th floor of the building of The Urban Elephants, we share this building with a different company, the 4th floor are offices that have nothing to do with our hostel. You never asked about this, you made assumptions and had it completely wrong.

Hope you have safe travels wherever you go.

Cheers!

The atmosphere is very good and I have met wonderful people there. But the place where we slept had no natural light and only had one window. There was also a meeting every day at half past six so we couldn't spend time outside the hostel or take the opportunity to spend our free day outside because we had to be there at that time. They also don't provide breakfast and lunch, they only give 15 euros to buy food for 10 people. Finally, the work schedules are not as indicated in worldpackers, because we had the cleaning shift and then the pubcrawl and other additional tasks that are still work.

I recommend asking about the condition of your room first. Keep in mind that they don't offer breakfast and lunch as such, what they offer is 15€ for all volunteers (at the time I was there we were about 15-20 of us). If you're looking to party every day, this is the place for you. If you're looking to have time to visit/travel at the same time, this is not the place. I met amazing people there and I will definitely never forget this experience.

If you're thriving for party and enjoy meeting people every day, then you will enjoy your stay in Bratislava! I enjoyed my time there but one thing that was unexpected to me was the amount of food given to the volunteers, which was not enough at all. Keep in mind you will have to buy food with your own savings when volunteering there. But other than that, the tasks were really easy and always done in a good mood, everyone has always been very friendly and caring about each other and I'm glad I got to meet all these nice people!

Had a fun time, the ambience was great. I mainly did cleaning shift, but sometimes took longer than expected. I went in July so it was due to it being high season, although that could improve. Also we had to do some extra activities during the week (shopping..) which were easy, but still work. The vibe was very hostel and community ( daily meetings and night activities), very fun, but means that you have little free time, so if you are looking for somewhere where you can be more autonomous, this is something to consider. I recommend the place if you are looking for party and socializing!

My time at Urban might have been short but it's definitely something to remember. The people, the dungeon, the night activities. It was what I expected, my 25 hours and unlimited partying. I met some amazing people that I'll be happy to go back to the hostel to see them again. My personal suggestion is stay for longer than 2 weeks so you can do more than just the cleaning. Have fun, stay there, be there for as many sundays and wednesdays as you possibly can because these are the night swim nights:)

The hostel is great for meeting international travelers, connecting with other volunteers, partying, and generally being social. However, I wouldn't recommend it for digital nomads or if you want to travel around the area a lot because as a volunteer you're expected to give a lot of time and volunteer for activities several times a week. I met some absolutely wonderful people, but ended up leaving early because I didn't have time for my online job like I thought I would.
