The experience in The Backpack was amazing! I learned and enhoyed a lot there. The team of the hostel, thw staffs and owners are really great people, and the location of The Backpack is fantastic to enjoy Cape Town. I'm sure that I will miss so much the routine, people and experiences there! Thank you for everything, guys! My Cape Town's family!

The Backpack is definitely the best hostel I have ever been in my life. It's a safe, cozy, clean place. It's close to all facilities that we need. All the staff is so friendly. The job itself is easy, basically to help in the breakfast, reception shifting and manager the bar. Don't be afraid to apply to stay in there. The Backpack é um lugar incrível. Limpo, organizado, seguro e perto de tudo que precisamos no dia a dia, como mercados, caixa eletrônico e restaurantes. As tarefas são super fácil, basicamente ajudar o staff na recepção e no café da manhã, e também no bar. Sensacional experiência

No doubt my best experience so far. The staff is super friendly and Lee always asked me how I was feeling. The accommodation of the volunteers is good and before long I felt like I was at home. I miss every day of this experience, there I met wonderful people. Thanks Lee and Staff for all the support <3

My experience with The Backpack was nothing short of incredible! I want to thank Lee for answering my request so quickly and helping me out of a tough situation...my originally planned volunteer location canceled on me the day before my arrival in Cape Town. I am truly grateful for the hospitality shown to me from every staff member and for making me feel at home from the moment of my arrival. To any potential applicants, what are you waiting for?! Best volunteer exchange AND travel experience thus far...hands down! All the best to the incredible Backpack team!

It was the best experience of my life. Cape Town is awesome, with a lot of tours and places to visit. The hostel is very organized, with amazing infrastructure and it is in an excellent location. Our shifts are made every week, often on Fridays, they are very organized and flexible. All the staffs were very friendly and helpful, even the owners were always talking with us and asking about our day and what they could do for us. Sometimes I had problems with others interns that didn't like to help, what made me worked too much. However it was solved with a brief talk.

We loved having you on or team Arthur and you really showed us that not a minute was wasted you packed everything into your day and were a great asset to us. We loved how you climbed our mountains, enjoyed our beaches and took an interest in all our city had to offer. I had a great time during my 5 weeks working at The Backpack! The staff made me feel very welcomed and they all became great friends of mine as well as the other interns! The hostel itself is perfectly located, very confortable and very well kept, although I don't recomend it if you're looking for a party hostel, as it has a more chilled and family atmosphere. The work is very easygoing although maybe the shifts could be better distributed within the interns. Overall it was an experience I'll never forget and I really recomend it! Thanks to the amazing people at The Backpack, you're the best!

I had a great experience at The Backpack. Lee is a very professional manager and very careful with the interns. The staffs are very friendly and amazing people, they were very patient in teach me the tasks of the hostel. But it's very important that the intern show yourself as a concerned person and try do your best job at the hostel. We received the shifts every week, so was possible to schedule your activities to meet Cape Town. The most of work was helping at the breakfast or frontdesk and in the both I had a opportunity to improve a lot my English and meet nice people.

I benefited from my experience extensively, enjoyed free excursions and met some incredible people, local and international! Cape Town is a truly remarkable city and The Backpack is extremely well-revered in the local community, founded upon the practices of fair trade tourism and social responsibility. My only concern is the poor management and lack of communication which has led to a toxic work environment and frustration among staff. I often felt extremely devalued, disrespected, and treated as less than staff. Because of this, I began lowering my expectations and, in turn, my output.

Thank you so much for your honest review. Lee and I the co founders and co owners have replaced the manageress and taken over the management of our internship program ourselves. We are excited and would be happy to send all prospective candidates the feedback we have received from the past interns.
We want the interns to leave The Backpack feeling they have not only had the best time in Cape Town but the most rewarding internship too!
