Programmdetails

This unique volunteer program invites undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students to combine field research and community engagement in two beautiful islands, Bali and Lombok. Volunteers will actively participate in the research project “From Social Bonds to Economic Equity: Emotional Solidarity as a Mechanism for Distributive Justice in Volunteer Tourism Sector.”

As part of the program, students will help collect valuable data by filling questionnaires at volunteer locations across Bali and Lombok, while also engaging in meaningful community-based tourism, education, and sustainability projects. Living in local homestays, participants gain full cultural immersion, support grassroots initiatives, and contribute to academic research that promotes equitable and sustainable tourism development.

Aktivitäten & Schichten

Daily Schedule (flexible depending on placement):

08:00–09:00 – Breakfast & planning meeting with hosts/community leaders
09:00–12:00 – Volunteer activities (teaching English, helping in eco-farming, supporting small tourism enterprises, assisting NGOs with community projects)
12:00–13:30 – Lunch break with host family or project team
13:30–16:00 – Project continuation (fieldwork, workshops, environmental campaigns, research tasks, or cultural exchange activities)
16:00–18:00 – Free time (language lessons, academic reflection, writing, or leisure activities like yoga or beach visits)
Evening – Dinner, cultural sharing, optional seminars with local academics/community members

Regeln

Respect local customs, religion, and dress codes (especially in temples and villages).
No alcohol or drugs during volunteering hours or in homestay premises.
Participation in orientation is mandatory before starting activities.
Volunteers must commit to agreed shifts and communicate changes in advance.
Academic research must be shared transparently with host communities (results, reports, or presentations).
Open-mindedness and cultural sensitivity are essential.
