We are looking for 2–3 volunteers for fieldwork in marshes of Punta Indio, Buenos Aires, at a farm 10 km from the nearest town. This is part of a PhD project led by two biologists. Ideal for students or recent graduates in biology interested in ornithology and ecology. We seek proactive, methodical people who enjoy hard fieldwork and learning about birds.

32 Stunden Hilfe pro Woche

Programmdetails

We are biologists who are part of the team at the Bird Ecology Laboratory-ILPLA-CONICET-LaPlata, and our research is part of a PhD thesis. This volunteer is perfect for bachelor students, recent graduates, or anyone interested in gaining practical field experience in ornithology and ecology. Help us to understand how the invasive plants affects the reproduction rates of birds in the coastal marshes of the Río de la Plata.

Aktivitäten & Schichten

We need help to:
-search for and monitor nests
-take vegetation measurements
-measure eggs and chicks
-observate bird behavior
-record predators on camera traps
-control artifcial nest experiments.

What You’ll Gain:
-Exposure to a wide variety of bird species, predatory vertebrates, and their ecological interactions in the Southern Cone.
-Practical experience with various ornithological and ecological research techniques.
-Training in nest searching and monitoring.

Regeln

The team covers accommodation and food on site. Personal expenses, insurance, and travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, are the responsibility of the volunteer. Volunteers are required to pay a weekly fee ($50 USD/week) to cover food purchases, lodging and help defray costs to project (equipment to set up the camp and to analyze data).
