This hostel is in the center of Merida and very near public transportation to go to beaches, ruins, cenotes, etc.The best part about volunteering here is the community. People hangout together and cook for each other often—it feels like a family.The working hours are reasonable and Adrian is open to flexible days and hours. The time of year you come will impact your trip, Merida can get so hot that it's difficult to go out and do anything. The good news is there's a pool if you want to spend the day in the hostel. My 3 weeks there were nice.

El hostel Charrúa me recibió muy bien en mi llegada, conocí grandes personas en el equipo. Adrian y Evelyn me apoyaron en mis actividades, agradezco la oportunidad de desarrollar mi aptitudes como Social Manager. Me sentí muy cómoda con las instalaciones, y con el ambiente de hogar que hay en el hostel. Gracias por la experiencia y por hacerme parte de todos los cambios y mejoras que vienen. Éxito.

El hostel es exactamente eso, una casa. Adrián, Evelyn, el staff te hacen sentir como en familia. Mis tareas estuvieron relacionadas a mis estudios y que se me escuchara fue de un gran valor para mi. Agradecida de la oportunidad de compartir mis días en Mérida aquí.

Fue mi primer voluntariado y creo yo no pude haber encontrado un lugar y un host mejor. Adrián y el equipo del hostel Charrúa, te hacen sentir parte de aquella gran familia. Donde pude aprender muchísimo de cada uno de los colaboradores y un lugar donde, también, pude hacer muchos amigos, de distintas parte del pais y del mundo. Así como la oportunidad de practicar el ingles y da pie el interés hacia otros idiomas y/o destinos. Totalmente recomendado el hostel Charrúa.

Working in the hostel was nice. The communication and organization needs a lot of improvement. For example the first day I wasn't welcomed by the owner when I arrived because "he forgot" or that I have to work at the reception even if i applied as a handyman. Sadly the owner don't really listen to you when you propose something. For the rest the hostel is really cozy and has a good atmosphere. Hours are respected but don't forget to ask your day off in advance because of the poor communication but Adrian is very flexible with days and hours. But in the end it was a good experienc

Adri fue súper amable y flexible en todo momento :) es una persona súper linda. A pesar de que me surgió un contratiempo y no pude estar todo el tiempo que quería, me la pase muy bien. Las actividades de limpieza y recepción son fáciles de entender. Respecto a los horarios, siempre hubo muy buena comunicación y se respetaban al 100%

Pasé 4 días en el hostel del Charrúa debido a que tuve que irme por el alto nivel de maltrato verbal y exceso de tareas que recibí de una empleada del personal del hostel. Desde el primer día le informé de todo lo sucedido al anfitrión, el cual la justificó diciendo que así eran sus modos y que no me lo tomara personal y que yo era una inadaptada. Las demás voluntarias me comentaron que ya habían pasado por lo mismo. Espero que nadie más tenga que pasar por lo que pasé y que quede claro que un voluntariado tiene que ser un intercambio de contribución mutua y no trabajo precarizado.

I spent a week in the hostel with a friend of mine and we helped the hostel with all the activities involved in maintaining the structure. Adrian and Eve are very flexible and helpful and during the week they also organized a dinner in which we had the possibility to get to know the other volunteers. There is a nice environment! The hostel is not in the center of town but taxi are very cheap or at any rate you can walk to the center in 20 minutes. I would recommend the hostel to other volunteers!
