Regeln

An act that is intended to be honest and well-meaning, when not carefully considered, can sometimes cause more harm than good. Therefore, we ask our volunteers to adhere to a few simple guidelines.

Please do NOT give money or pay villagers for tasks they have not completed or for minor things that typically wouldn’t warrant payment (e.g., tasks they would have done regardless).

Unfortunately, as a foreigner, particularly a white person in African countries, you may experience a certain form of discrimination due to your background as someone from a developed nation. Villagers might try to take advantage of this and may ask you for money for trivial things. It is important not to give them money, as this will only reinforce their perception that a mzungu (the Swahili term for a white person or foreigner) means an opportunity to ask for more financial help.
