The Experience

The Escolinha is a colorfull house in a simple quarterhood where travelers stay and teach to the children of the neighborhood. At the school you can teach the children whatever you can teach! Painting, math, Spanish, English, music, games, sports or ... whatever you think makes sense! Volunteers have to organize their lessons totally by themselves.

My experience at the school was full of emotions and challenges! You gotta be prepared for kids full of energy and love. In my case I never worked with kids and was a bit too much for 1 volunteer. Since sometimes there were 15 kids in between 3 and 13 years old. Donna Maria who lives next door and her family were really helpful and were always there when necessary. Event after I finished my experience at the school went to visit Dona Maria's family with her in the interior of the Amazon and loved it! Also if you have the opportunity go! Really hope to return someday ❤️

Being at the school has been an amazing experience and the children were all so happy to be there. We did various activities and spent much longer with them than I'd requested but we had an amazing time with them all, even with the language barrier we learnt our ways of communicating and having fun. I would highly recommend a visit to vol utter with the school. You won't regret it ❤️

This was my first experience with WorldPackers so I didn't know what to expect, I must admit it was surprisingly fun. The kids are adorable, the neighborhood is so nice, all the people around are lovely. Most of the time I was just playing around. It was also my first time in Brasil, I really enjoyed my stay at the country. I learned a lot from the culture and a little Portuguese also, and I felt in love with the Tapioca. Thanks for the experience, I will miss everyone. I wish the best to the school team so we all together can keep giving smiles to the kids.

My experience at the school was challenging and life-changing! It was a lot of work being alone with the kids, but I think I've done a good job. The host Alex manages to provide a good support. Dona Maria and her family are friendly and always available. The accommodation is in the same space as the school and offers a very simple structure, but it's ok for a few days. Even though the neighborhood is very poor, I felt safe the whole time. Patience, persistence, creativity and affection are essential to those who want to help the beloved curumins and cunhantãs. I already miss you! ❤

Mislene came to Itacoatiara in October 2023 and was a very great volunteer, from the very fist moment she was working totally on her own responsibility with the children. Her work was very organised and she had prepared lots of activities. The communication with her was always productive and friendly. She reported in detail about her activities with the children. When she had to leave Donna Maria and the children were more than sad. Mislene, thank you for letting repair the school-bike! Thank you for everything! You will be always more than welcome back! My days at the school were met with children smiles and a bit of curiosity, as must be said for me as well! I had a wonderful time at the school de Itacoatiara, it was however shorter than I would have hoped for. Even though many of the children would come and go as they pleased,one could clearly see that the school was an important and comforting place in their daily lives, with that the meaningful presence of volunteers and how it positively affects them. We had a lot of fun and lots of learning activities during my stay, I will work on my Portuguese and luckily I will be back soon!
