Volunteering at Matt's place was life changing. I had an amazing time learning badas skills with Matt, who is this fisherman/farmer/hunter man with a beautiful heart and lots of positive energy. It was awesome to experience the Hawaiian culture, meeting local people and always being surprise with delicious organic food that Matt prepares with the vegetables of his garden or his hunting skills. It's just one of those places and lifestyles that I will always remember and be greatfull for. ¡Gracias muchas por tanto!

My stay in the project was beyond magical, I feel so grateful for meeting Matt and his world which is definitely one of a kind! Days are always different, exciting and time really goes fast in this part of Big Island. The place itself it's beautiful and Matt is a wonderful soul, that not only brings joy to everyone around him but also makes you reconnect with the world and yourself in so many different ways! Thanks Matt, Ari, Ika and all the amazing community in the place for the most incredible time ever!! You'll be forever in my heart, mahalo<3

Matt embodies the Aloha lifestyle while being an awesome host! He is very knowledgeable when it comes to the native plants/animals of Hawaii and you will always be learning something new everyday! Matt went out of his way to make sure I was always comfortable and even let me use his internet hotspot to check in with family since there is mostly no signal in the area. Overall, I am super grateful for this opportunity and I hope to return soon! Ps. you will try lots of yummy food, his cooking is delicious! 🤙

I had the best time over there! This was my first time using Worldpackers and meeting Matt made it all more special. He is a great person, does his best to make you feel comfortable and to make this a wonderful experience, giving you a real taste of what is like to live in Hawaii. The place is in a wonderful valley surrounded by trees and is super relaxing. And to top it off, it's just a 10-minute walk from the sea! I also learned a lot of new recipes, Matt is a great cooker. And, of course, there's Ika, a goofy dog who lives there too ❤️ I'll miss everything!

Matthew is a safe and friendly host, he does not expect too much of guests, and does his best to make you comfortable during your stay. It was overall a very relaxing and enjoyable experience, and the best way to see what Hawaii is truly like. Recommend to anyone interested in seeing local culture, he catches his own fish, cooks it the best!

Matthew was very friendly and welcoming, accomadating any needs. He's very intertwined into the local community and culture, so as his guest you get the best experience a tourist could have in Hawaii. His self sustaining lifestyle is something to admire and learn from. Had a great time!

This experience helped me to shape myself as a better being in relationship with nature. Matt taught me to live and think in a respectful way with everything around us and anything that comes from the ground. It's definitely life changing and I'm so grateful for his kindness and openness to show me his lifestyle and diet. He has such an excitement to honor the Earth. I'm happy that I've got to met him. This was my first time using Worldpackers and it was wonderful. Matt is an excellent host. He can do everything, hunt pigs, milk goats, catch fish, and plant. He makes his own jelly and harvests from the land. I had fun going on adventures with him into the woods and the ocean. We cooked really good food together. 10/10. It's a valley a half hour from a large town, I flew into Hilo airport and the buses are free but take a long time. Matt's car is broken right now and his friend came and took us for a trip. If you want to have a car all the time Matt knows some people that rent cars.

Aloha !!! I'm overwhelmed by the experience, Matthew showed me a lot of different thing in the terms of sustainability and harvesting! He's positive energy really influenced me to adjust to the Hawaiian way of living. If you want an adventure that includes catching fish, fruits etc and eat delicious food! So if you want to leave big city life, for a moment and se things differently you have to apply ! It was mind opening, sleeping in a tent and eat all kinds of fruits ! Mahalaos
