The Experience

Aloha! We are committed to keeping the jungle back and food resources growing here at Laupahoehoe!!! Keeping the vines from overtaking the fruit trees is a big job, and they deserve it! Bananas, avocados, mountain apples, oranges, grapefruit, coconuts, starfruit, cacao and mangosteen, all full size and fruiting well when in season. Lots of coffee, lilikoi vines, taro and wild spinach. I can take you kayaking and hiking, also a weekly market.

I really felt lucky staying here, it was an amazing experience with a lot of learning. If you want to feel like you’re living Hawaii. This place is the best option for you. There were always something new to do and some new things to experience. If you’re interested about living from the land, really get connected to the culture and get away from the chaos of the city. This is the place for you

If you’re looking to get away from the crowd, disconnect from society, learn about sustainable living and eating really good food this is the perfect place!! I had the best time ever with Matt & he made me feel very welcomed and comfortable. I worked at my own pace and had time to myself to do my own thing which was super nice! It was an adventure everyday and I would recommend this place to anyone doing this for the first time. You REALLY learn what it’s like to live here and care for the land. The locals were super nice and the weekly markets were so much fun!! I’ll miss this place <3

This was my first volunteering experience and it was more than awesome. I felt like I was living in Hawaii and not like a tourist, and that's what Matt does, he makes you feel the real Hawaiian lifestyle. I'm so grateful for having this great opportunity and for meeting Matt. Since first day Matt made me fell at home, I learned so many things, since new food recipes and even fishing in Kayak. I totally recommend this volunteer, the work time, the tasks, the space, everything is perfect, seriously it was amazing, we had really good times.

Matt gave his best making this a great experience, I’m still mind blown how kind everyone was and that they let me stay since I couldn’t fulfill my required tasks because I got sick after just one day of being there. He showed me around and I met other great ppl, nobody made me feel bad since I couldn’t really work, everyone made me feel so welcomed and I already miss everyone and Mitts ofc!!

My experience with Matt was amazing! I stayed in a house basically next to the campground. The place is wonderful, it is 3 minutes from the sea and you can have contact with many local people.

Work activities included gardening, fishing and cleaning. In addition to that, we also got to know different places on the island, went hiking and diving.

If you like being close to nature and local people, I highly recommend this experience. Thanks for everything Matt.
